We are seeking a Welder/Fitter, 2nd Shift to join our federal team at our York, PA location. We're keeping the Navy cool. Literally. Our team at the Grantley Plant custom designs, develops and manufactures complex chilled water HVAC and refrigeration equipment for Navy vessels around the world. The job consists of performing duties required to plan, lay out, fabricate, assemble, fit, braze tubing, thread, weld complex piping, system components and weld coded, and noncoded pressure vessel assemblies and subassemblies, working with ferrous, nonferrous metals, using conventional or automatic submerged arc welding and difficult positions of stick, tig, and manual arc welding of Navy equipment.

Location: York, PA

Shift: 2nd shift (3:00pm - 11:30pm)

Pay: Starting rate of pay is $40.31 (plus $2.00 for 2nd shift) per hour

Union: This is a bargaining unit (Union) position.

As a Welder/Fitter, You Will
• Working with isometric drawings, digital 3-D models, operational method sheets, welding symbols, and code specifications.
• Work on floor, guarded platform, ladders or at welding table.
• Perform floor erection or fixture assembly of pressure vessels and subassemblies.
• Weld in all positions.
• Lay out from center lines or create own layouts as required to locate and fabricate all internal, external part details, angular, radial, longitudinal relationships.
• Preparing material for welding by cleaning, bead blasting, and or grinding.
• Weld parts per drawing details; including internal and external components, such as heads, lugs, brackets, baffles, piping, valves, fittings, oil coolers, water boxes, covers, make all connections.
• Clean and dress welds to Navy Welding Standards.
• Perform carbon arc or plasma arc gouging.
• Repair welding on defective materials and parts.
• Maintaining a clean and safe working area.

Required Qualifications
• Applicant must pass a Navy Military Code Standard 2” diameter pipe test with a backing ring in the 6G position using E7018 filler material in order to be hired.
• High school diploma or general education degree (GED).
• Minimum of (3) or more years welding experience; using SMAW, FCAW, and GTAW in all positions
• Ability to use a tape measure, levels, laser levels, combination square set, fixtures, hand tools, pneumatic air tools, guarded platforms, ladders, and any other appropriate welding and material handling equipment.
• Ability to use basic mathematics, work from prints, sketches, written/verbal instruction, and operational method sheets.
• Ability to perform continuous physical work including moving heavy weight materials, handling chain falls, structural shapes, and work in strenuous positions.
• Ability to work safely at all times. Constant care is necessary to prevent injury.
• Must be U.S. Citizen to work on the US Government contract.

Preferred Qualifications
• Technical or Vocational Welding Schooling, or equivalent welding experience.
• Experience welding while adhering to code standards.
• Rigging and overhead crane operation experience.
• Knowledge of Military Code Requirements.
• Experience welding exotic materials.
• Ability to use Weld Gauges including Fillet Gauges and V-Wac Gauges.
