Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers about Welder Jobs in Singapore

Q What is the minimum salary I should expect for welder jobs in Singapore in 2026?
Singapore does not have a statutory minimum wage for welders. For a concrete benchmark, the Singapore Workforce Skills Qualifications (WSQ) welding-related course pages published by SkillsFuture Singapore list welding training fees and the government’s occupational outlook resources do not set a fixed monthly wage, so employers commonly price pay by skill level, certification, and shift allowances rather than a legal floor. A practical starting point is to compare offers against the annual Employment Pass minimum qualifying salary of S$5,600 per month for non-financial services jobs, which the Ministry of Manpower applies to skilled foreign professionals, not local welders.
Q Can a foreign welder work in Singapore in 2026, and what pass is needed?
A foreign welder normally needs a Work Permit or S Pass; the Ministry of Manpower’s Work Permit rules cover semi-skilled manufacturing and construction jobs, while the S Pass minimum qualifying salary is S$3,300 per month in 2026, rising with age. If your employer is hiring you for hands-on welding work in a workshop, shipyard, or construction setting, you cannot work on a tourist or visit pass. Employers must apply for the pass before the worker starts work.
Q What qualifications do I need to apply for welder jobs in Singapore?
For most welder openings, employers ask for at least secondary-level education plus a welding certificate or proven trade experience, and the Ministry of Manpower requires foreign candidates for S Pass positions to earn at least S$3,300 monthly in 2026. If you are applying for a Skills Framework-linked welding role, Singapore’s official workforce framework places emphasis on job-specific competencies such as shielded metal arc welding, gas metal arc welding, and welding inspection basics. The safest approach is to bring documentary proof of your welding processes, materials worked on, and years of hands-on experience.
Q What documents are needed to apply for a welding job and work pass in Singapore?
For a welding job application, employers typically ask for your passport biodata page, certificate copies, resume, and employment references; for a Singapore work pass application, the Ministry of Manpower requires the employer to submit the application online and keep supporting documents ready for verification. Common supporting documents include education certificates, training records, and proof of past employment, and all foreign documents should be in English or officially translated. A Work Permit or S Pass application cannot proceed without the employer’s sponsorship and approval.
