As per the Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment, the minimum adult wage applying to plumber roles in New Zealand is NZ$26.00 per hour from 1 April 2026. Plumbers working more than 40 hours per week must receive 1.5 times this rate for overtime. Employers must display the current rates on site.

As per Immigration New Zealand, overseas plumbers need a Straight to Residence visa or Accredited Employer Work Visa under the Green List for the occupation code 334111. Applications require a job offer from an accredited employer and cost NZ$1,120 for the main applicant as of 2026. Processing takes 20 working days for Straight to Residence.

As per the Plumbing, Gasfitting and Drainlaying Board under MBIE, applicants must hold a New Zealand Certificate in Plumbing Level 4 plus 8,000 hours of documented experience. Overseas qualifications require assessment by the Board with a NZ$690 fee. Registration must be renewed annually by 31 March.

As per Immigration New Zealand, applicants must submit a valid passport, qualification certificates, police certificate less than six months old, and a signed employment agreement. Medical certificates are mandatory if staying longer than 12 months. All documents must be uploaded via the online RealMe account.
