Armed Reaction Officer (Stallion Security)

As per the Department of Employment and Labour, security guards under the National Bargaining Council for the Private Security Industry agreement earn a minimum of R6,739 per month for Grade E (patrol officer) effective 1 July 2026, based on a 45-hour week. This includes basic wage only; allowances for night shift add R500 monthly. Overtime is paid at 1.5 times the hourly rate after 45 hours.

Foreign nationals need a General Work Visa from the Department of Home Affairs, sponsored by a South African employer, as security guard roles are not on the Critical Skills List. The application fee is R1,520, with processing time of 8-10 weeks and visa valid for up to 5 years. Proof of qualifications and job offer letter are required.

You must be at least 18 years old, have Grade 10 (matric equivalent not always required for Grade E), South African ID or permanent residency, no criminal record, and complete PSIRA-approved Grade E training costing R900-R1,200. Pass a written exam and medical fitness test. No prior experience needed for entry-level Grade E.

Required documents include certified ID copy, Grade 10 certificate, police clearance certificate (SAPS 169-8 form), two passport-sized photos, PSIRA training competency certificate, and proof of payment of R380 application fee. Applications are submitted online via PSIRA portal or at branches. Licence is issued within 4-6 weeks if approved.
