The minimum wage for Omani nationals in driver jobs in the private sector is OMR 410 per month as of Ministerial Decision No. 202/2023, effective through 2026. Expatriate drivers have no statutory minimum but standard contracts start at OMR 300 per month including accommodation. Overtime is paid at 125% of basic rate.

A sponsoring employer must apply for a work permit via the MOL Tesreem platform, costing OMR 100 annually for low-skilled roles like drivers, then ROP issues the 2-year residence visa for OMR 20 stamping fee. Requirements include medical fitness certificate (HIV-free) and police clearance. The process takes 5-10 working days.

Applicants must be at least 21 years old, hold a valid Omani driving license in the relevant category (e.g., category 3 for light vehicles), and have minimum 2 years driving experience. No formal education is required for non-hazardous driver roles. Medical fitness is mandatory.

Required documents include passport copy valid for 6+ months, 4 passport photos, attested driving license, medical report from approved clinic (OMR 30 fee), and CV. Employer submits these via MOL e-services for permit approval before ROP visa. Originals needed for verification.
