As per Employment New Zealand, the adult minimum wage for welders is NZ$24.00 per hour from 1 April 2026. Welders on piece rates must still receive at least this amount for every hour worked, with time-and-a-half for hours over 40 per week. Starting rates for qualified welders commonly reach NZ$28.50 per hour under collective agreements.

As per Immigration New Zealand, welders apply for the Straight to Residence Visa or Accredited Employer Work Visa requiring a job offer from an accredited employer and NZQA Level 4 qualification. The visa costs NZ$1,120 for the main applicant and allows work for up to 3 years initially. Applicants must show NZ$5,000 in savings or a job offer paying at least NZ$29.66 per hour.
