As per the Comisión Nacional de los Salarios Mínimos, the minimum wage for welders in the northern border free zone is MXN 374.89 per day effective January 1 2026. Welders receive double pay for the first nine hours of overtime and triple thereafter under Article 67 of the Ley Federal del Trabajo. This rate applies to all IMSS-registered welding contracts in Baja California, Sonora, Chihuahua, Coahuila, Nuevo León and Tamaulipas.

Applicants must present a valid CURP, official identification (INE or passport), proof of address no older than three months, and the Constancia de Situación Fiscal issued by SAT. For positions involving pressure vessels, the employer also requires the DC-3 certificate from STPS-recognized training centers. All documents must be uploaded through the portal https://www.gob.mx/stps before the first day of work.

The Ley Federal del Trabajo limits welders to 48 hours per week with at least one paid rest day. After one year of service, workers receive 12 paid vacation days plus 25 percent vacation premium, increasing by two days each subsequent year up to 20 days. Employers must register these hours in the electronic payroll system by the 15th of each month.

Welders earning MXN 18,000 per month fall into the 10.88 percent marginal ISR bracket according to the 2026 tax table published by SAT. Monthly withholding is calculated automatically by the employer and deposited to SAT by the 17th of the following month. Annual tax returns must be filed between April 1 and April 30 via the SAT portal.
