The Comisión Nacional de los Salarios Mínimos sets the 2026 general minimum wage at 312.50 MXN per day for drivers in the interior zone and 416.00 MXN per day in the northern border zone effective 1 January 2026. Overtime after eight hours must be paid at double the rate and triple after nine hours under the Ley Federal del Trabajo. All formal driver contracts must be registered with IMSS within five business days of hiring.

Applicants need a valid Licencia Federal de Conductor type A or B issued by the Secretaría de Infraestructura, Comunicaciones y Transportes plus at least two years of documented driving experience for vehicles over 3.5 tons. The license must be renewed every five years with a medical certificate and no more than two traffic violations in the prior 24 months.

Candidates must submit a valid CURP, official identification, the federal driver license, proof of address no older than three months, and IMSS registration history via the STPS portal. Applications for federal cargo routes also require the Carta de Antecedentes No Penales issued within the last 30 days.

The maximum is 48 hours per week with at least one full rest day; night drivers are limited to 36 hours under NOM-012-SCT-2022. Workers receive 15 paid vacation days after the first year plus an additional two days for each subsequent year and a 25 percent vacation premium paid in cash.
