As per the Ministry of Labour & Employment, the minimum wage for semi-skilled workers such as welders in the Central Sphere Zone I is ₹25,246 per month effective from January 2026. This rate applies to 26 working days at ₹970 per day. Overtime is paid at twice the ordinary rate for hours beyond 9 per day.

A National Certificate in Welder trade (NCVT) from an ITI after Class 8th is mandatory, which is a 1-year course. No prior experience is needed for fresher positions registered under CTS trades. The course covers arc and gas welding with 1920 hours of training.

Required documents include Aadhaar card, ITI Welder certificate (NCVT/SCVT), PAN card, bank passbook, and passport-size photos. Self-attested copies must be uploaded during registration on NCS. Employers verify these for shortlisting as of 2026 guidelines.

Under the Occupational Safety, Health and Working Conditions Code 2020, welders work 48 hours per week with a maximum 12 hours per day including overtime. One paid weekly off is mandatory, and 15 days casual leave plus 12 days earned leave per year are provided after 240 days service. These rules apply to factories with 10+ workers.
