As per the Office of the Chief Labour Commissioner, the minimum wage for motor vehicle drivers in Zone I (Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, Chennai) is ₹29,531 per month effective April 1, 2026, including ₹24,210 basic plus ₹5,321 VDA. Overtime is payable at twice the ordinary rate for work beyond 8 hours per day. This applies to establishments with 10 or more workers.

A valid Heavy Motor Vehicle (HMV) license is mandatory for vehicles over 7.5 tonnes, with minimum age of 20 years for transport vehicles. License validity is 5 years up to age 40, then 3 years. A medical certificate in Form 1A is required every renewal.

Required documents include Aadhaar card, PAN card, valid driving license (LMV/HMV), 10th standard certificate, passport-size photo, and bank account details with cancelled cheque. Scan and upload during registration on ncs.gov.in for job matching. Originals must be presented at interviews.

Under the Motor Transport Workers Act 1961, maximum 8 hours per day or 48 hours per week, with one weekly off. Eligible for 12 days casual leave and 12 days earned leave annually after 240 days of service. Overtime paid at double the ordinary rate.
