Carpenter

As per the Delhi Labour Department notification referenced on labour.gov.in, the minimum wage for a skilled carpenter is Rs 26,500 per month effective April 2026. This includes basic rate of Rs 22,000 plus variable dearness allowance of Rs 4,500. Overtime is payable at twice the ordinary rate for hours exceeding 8 per day.

As per the Directorate General of Training, eligibility for Carpenter trade under Craftsmen Training Scheme requires passing 8th standard and completing 2 years ITI training or 1 year apprenticeship. No prior experience needed for entry-level. Certification is issued via NCVT exams held twice yearly.

Register on the National Career Service portal at ncs.gov.in using Aadhaar number, upload PAN, bank passbook, and skill certificate. Search for 'carpenter' jobs, apply directly to verified employers. Placement services are free, with over 1.5 crore registrations as of 2026.

Under the Occupational Safety, Health and Working Conditions Code 2020 notified on labour.gov.in, carpenters work maximum 8 hours per day and 48 hours per week with one weekly off. Annual leave is 1 day for every 20 days worked, totaling 15 days for 300-day year. Paid maternity leave for women is 26 weeks.
