As per GOV.UK, the National Living Wage for workers aged 21 and over in restaurant jobs is £12.75 per hour from 1 April 2026. Employers must pay this rate for all hours worked including split shifts common in hospitality. Overtime is not legally required above this rate unless specified in the contract.

As per GOV.UK, non-UK citizens need a Skilled Worker visa sponsored by a licensed restaurant employer for roles paying at least £38,700 or the going rate for chefs and managers. The visa lasts up to 5 years and requires a Certificate of Sponsorship issued after 6 April 2026 rules. Seasonal restaurant roles may use Temporary Work visas limited to 6 months.

As per GOV.UK, applicants must provide proof of right to work such as a passport or biometric residence permit, a CV listing prior hospitality experience, and a Level 2 Food Hygiene Certificate. Employers conduct right to work checks before the first day of employment starting January 2026.

As per GOV.UK, restaurant workers have a maximum average of 48 hours per week unless they opt out, with at least 5.6 weeks of paid holiday including bank holidays for full-time staff. Part-time workers receive pro-rated holiday based on hours worked from April 2026.
